Still Wild is a Living Digital Archive
This means this game was created with the intention to preserve animals and nature in a unique way that people can visit at any time, spend time with, take photos, and learn about these creatures and their environments. Each animal seen in the game is or has been endangered, with some being critically endangered or even extinct in the wild or overall. The digital part is being a digital video game anyone can play around the world, living referring to the advanced code systems and 3D models that bring the animals and their world to life, and archive meaning this game consists of and will continue to be updated with a variety of animals that are in danger. This project is 100% free for everyone, no ads, no strings attached, a project made simply out of passion for animals and conservation of the natural world.
I do tons of research for each and every animal I add to this game to make sure their behaviors are as accurate as possible. I was able to simulate these natural animal behaviors and instinct through a custom-made animal behavior system I programmed in C#. This system allows animals to decide when to eat, sleep, drink, hunt, join packs, leave packs, grow with age, respond to weather events, and much more! The goal of this game was not only to allow people to have a fun experience with these animals but also a very educational one!
You use portals to get from the main garden area to the animal of your choosing! Animals will be added on a rolling basis, meaning Still Wild will get tons of updates with each one bringing a new endangered or recently extinct animal.
An Emperor Penguin! What a beautiful tuxedo! You can slide around and swim with the world’s largest species of penguin, although the Emperor Penguin has been recently classified as endangered due to the rapid loss of their sea-ice habitat caused by climate change.
Swimming with the world’s largest animal may seem scary, but Blue Whales are just a big, blubbery, friends! They are also endangered due to their near extinction caused by commercial whaling in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
Meet the most endangered canid in the world, the Red Wolf. These wolves once roamed widely across the southeastern United States, but there are now very few left only residing in eastern North Carolina mainly due to habitat loss and poaching.
There are many species and subspecies of Giant Tortoises, many of which are endangered or have gone extinct, but I chose the Galapagos Tortoise to represent them in this game. These tortoises are almost all endangered or critically endangered due to overhunting and habitats destruction. They may be slow, but they are majestic to hang out with!
